ONE OTHER THING I WANT TO MENTION BEFORE I READ THE PROCLAMATION , THE PROCLAMATION IS FOR NATIONAL ARBOR DAY. TEXAS ARBOR DAY WILL BE CELEBRATED ON NOVEMBER 2ND. THIS WILL BE OUR THIRD YEAR FOR OUR TREE GIVEAWAY WHICH IS GETTING IT'S REALLY BECOME SOMETHING PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT. SO I REALLY ENCOURAGE YOU, WE HAVE 165 TREES . AND THEY ARE NICE TREES. >> I HAVE THE HONOR OF PRESENTING THIS PARTICULAR PROCLAMATION THIS EVENING. COUNCILMEMBER BRITTON IS THE LIAISON TO THE SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD BUT COULD NOT BE WITH US THIS EVENING. I ASKED THE MAYOR IF I COULD PRESENT THIS, BECAUSE I HAVE UM-- BEEN TOUCHED BY ALZHEIMER'S IN MY FAMILY. MY GRANDMOTHER UNFORTUNATELY LOST HER LIFE TO ALZHEIMER'S. IT IS VERY TRAUMATIC IN THE WAY THAT IT IMPACTS FAMILY MEMBERS, THIS DISEASE. PERHAPS MORE SO THAN IT IMPACTS THE PERSON WITH THE DISEASE. SO GRATEFUL TO PRESENT THIS TONIGHT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY. ALL RIGHT, WE HAVE QUITE A CROWD UP HERE. THIS IS GREAT. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SENIOR ADVISORY BOARD THE CITY OF ROWLETT WILL JOIN LANDMARKS WORLDWIDE ON FRIDAY NOVEMBER 1ST 2024 TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR THOSE LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AND OTHER FORMS OF DEMENTIA. AS A SYMBOL OF SUPPORT THE ROWLETT WATER TOWER WILL BE ILLUMINATED IN TEAL THE OFFICIAL AWARENESS COVER OF THE ALZHEIMER'S FOUNDATION OF AMERICA. THIS RECOGNITION HIGHLIGHTS BUSINESSES THAT DEMONSTRATE A STRONG ONGOING COMMITMENT TO ENHANCING THE LIVES OF ROWLETT'S SENIOR CITIZENS.

THE PURPOSE OF THE CURRENT PLAN , THE PURPOSE OF THE CURRENT PLAN ADOPTED BY THE CITY WAS TO MOVE FORWARD INTO THE FUTURE WITH A RESPONSIBLE GROWTH PLAN, AND TO WORK TO OFFSET THE PROBLEMS THAT CURRENTLY PLAGUE OUR CITY. THIS IS WHAT THE TAXPAYERS VOTED FOR, NOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE WITH THEIR OWN AGENDA TO DEVELOP. THE COLUMBIA STATE PROJECTS VIOLATES THE CITY TREE ORDINANCE WHICH WAS PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT ROWLETT'S NATURAL BEAUTY AND ECOLOGICAL INTEGRITY. THROWING $700,000 OF THE SITUATION IS NOT GOING TO PREVENT ALL THOSE TREES FROM BEING LEVELED TO THE GROUND.

ADDITIONALLY THEIR PLAN WOULD REQUIRE FILLING IN TWO NATURAL DRAINAGE CHANNELS WHICH IS VIOLATION OF THE CITY'S ENGINEERING STANDARDS FOR WATER MANAGEMENT. AT THE BOTTOM THERE. AND A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT ACTIVE PARK IMPROVEMENTS THERE EXISTING COLUMBIA PARK IS A PASSIVE PARK SPACE. IT LEAVES THAT AS PASSIVE PARK SPACE FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES TO ENJOY IT IN THAT MANNER. THERE IS THE ADDITION OF PICKLE BALL COURTS, A KAYAK LAUNCH, PLAYGROUND, AND SEATING THAT IS COVERED AND SEATING THAT'S UNCOVERED IN ADDITION TO THE WALKING PATHWAY THROUGHOUT THAT I MENTIONED AND A PROPOSAL FOR AN ADDITIOAL 100 TREES TO BE PLANTED IN THE PARK.
